Courtney Scott has always had an eye for detail. From her childhood doll house that was decorated “just so” to her pursuit of an MFA in Costume Design, she has always loved the little embellishments that take something from every day to elegant.
It’s also what drives her passion for creating custom home decor options with a dressmaker’s eye. Floradora combines her love of fabric and her philosophy of living with such details as antique buttons, double-stitched hems and oh-so-beautiful fabrics to bring beauty into your space.
What’s in a name?
We get this question a lot — what is Floradora?
Courtney’s background is in costume design, and she was inspired by a costume of the past that was whimsical, feminine and full of detail: The Florodora Girl Costume.
“Full, fluffy skirt; lace-trimmed bodice, with bishop sleeves gathered in at the wrist; and off-the-face picture hat. Popularized by the Florodora chorus in the musical show, Florodora. ” – A Dictionary of Costume and Fashion: Historic and Modern by Mary Brooks Picken copyright 1957
To help capture her garden aesthetic, she changed “Florodora” to “Floradora” and thus a home decor company was started. Our motto is “Dressmaker Details in Home Decor,” and we always remember those chorus girls of the past and try to honor their spirit to put a little beauty into the everyday … even if you’re just in the chorus!
